Neither Here Nor There In Europe

“Neither Here nor There: Travels in Europe” written by Bill Bryson in 1991 is a snapshot of Europe on the cusp of many changes to come in Eastern Europe. He is a travelogue author of many books including “A Walk in the Woods.” Bryson had also traveled in Europe in the 1970s and talks about the changes Europe have gone through since then.

The book starts in Hammerfest, Norway and ends in Istanbul, Turkey, giving a far-reaching account of many places in Europe.

The book is written distinctly from his viewpoint, thoughts on beer, woman and his reflections on the people around him. He gives a solo observation without depth into the areas he explored, but this allows the reader to imagine doing this trip on their own and what you will face in such a trek.

As a reader you really see what he experiences for better or worse and that is what I feel makes a fantastic adventure.
