Peruque Valley Park Hike

Hike along a short ridge above a pebble-filled stream and by baseball fields at Peruque Valley Park in Wentzville.

This is a 1 mile hike with 33 feet of elevation gain. It is paved in two parts with the middle area being gravel.

Start of the Hike

I parked on the east side of the large lot and headed to the cement path. I headed to the right along the path following the trail as it curves towards the east side of the park.

Large rocks were found along the trail.

At .1 miles I came to an area where the paved path goes between large rocks.

You can shorten the walk by going to the left around the pond.

Then at .3 miles, I came to a pond. A paved trail goes on the left back to the parking lot. If you only want to do a short walk, then this trail leads back to the parking lot.

Creek Area

The trail becomes gravel at .4 miles. Then it goes into woods near a low ridge above the creek.

As the trail curves to the southwest look for a short natural surface trail on the right.

It leads down to the pebble-filled creek. I took some photos as the water ripples over the rocks.

Note: Don’t enter this area if it is flooded and the water is fast-moving.

Next, I headed back up to the main trail. At .6 miles the trail becomes paved once again.

Heading Back

The trail goes around the back of the baseball fields and then curves around the parking lot. As I walk by, a large hawk swoops down from a high light pole.

After passing by the closed concession stand, I came to the shortcut trail once more and to where I parked near the start of the trail.

Final Thoughts

This is a mostly-level hike. It includes views of fields, baseball fields, a pond, and a creek. If you have a stroller do the short trail around the lake to form a loop back to the parking area.

The section by the creek is the most remote and scenic area. It is an easy-to-do-one-mile loop walk in the Wentzville area.
