We took a cruise on Norwegian Breakaway with plenty of activities for kids from water slides to games and sports competitions in Splash Academy.
Although, we didn’t do as many activities as we would like due to sea day with bad weather.
This cruise went out of New Orleans and allowed us to visit Mexico and Central America.
ON THE CRUISE
Since we were there early we had some time to do some ping pong. We usually try to get on board closer to the first groups to have some time to explore the ship before it fills up. Also, it allows us to have lunch before it gets too crazy.
As we headed out on the Mississippi River, we were able to take in night views of the cityscape and St. Louis Cathedral.
The next day was a “Sea Day” with no port stops. I played one-on-one soccer with the kid.
We went up high above the deck exploring the ropes course. He also had fun on the waterslides.
That night the musical “Six” was playing so we checked that out in the theater. Make sure to reserve tickets before you go on the cruise to make sure you have a seat. Although, there are usually seats available on standby.
On this cruise they did the towel animals, I haven’t seen them do that in a while so my son enjoyed them. I have a video of them creating them on a previous cruise.
The next few days were port days so we did not spend much time on the cruise ship.
We did have a chance to check out a Fleetwood Mac cover band doing the album Rumors.
Also, in the main area, a singer performed Tina Turner songs.
Sadly, on the last day on the cruise ship which was a sea day, the weather was bad so outside activities such as the slides, soccer area, and ropes course were closed. The pool was available but was cold. We wish they had done more to accommodate this change, luckily our son met a friend and spent a lot of time at the Splash Academy.
Final Thoughts
Overall the cruise was fine, but the main buffet could have been better. Yet the restaurants were good such as the Irish pub and the Brazilian restaurant.
The excursions and the stops made the cruise as opposed to the cruise ship. We like that Norwegian Cruise Lines does this special that includes two free dinners, free Wi-Fi minutes, and unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
My son enjoys his Shirley Temples and fake Pina Coladas!

MORE ABOUT CRUISING
Cruising With Kids
On our Caribbean cruise, we were able to take advantage of using the kid’s club since Andrew was way beyond needing diapers. Children have to be toilet trained for Holland America to be at the club. This allowed Andrew some time to do activities with other kids and we took some time for ourselves, which we don’t do very often.
Taking a Norwegian Escape Cruise
Cruise out of Port Canaveral on the Norwegian Escape and visit Caribbean Islands and onboard activities like a ropes course, mini-golf, and water park.
