Kids enjoy a destination playground and families can take to trails that wrap around lakes at Veterans Tribute Park in Weldon Spring, Mo.
I walked 1.7 miles of the paved trails with 105 feet of elevation checking out the main sites in the park including a Veteran’s Memorial.

Start of the Walk at Veterans Tribute Park
I parked in the first lot on the left near a red-roof picnic pavilion with two cupolas on top giving it a barn-like look.
Next, I went to the right along the parking lot then made a left down the paved trail to the lakes.

Field and Lakes
At the bottom of the hill were two bridges and I went left along the first lake. Plantings around the bridges provide a garden in the summer.

If I had gone right, I would pass by a fishing pier and take a shorter walk. High above it is a lookout from the playground.

Along the way, you can see parts of a book in wooden boxes. If I had my son with me, we could read a book along this storybook walk.

Next, I made a left to head away from the second lake doing a longer loop around a field near Pitman Hill Road.

Back to the Second Lake
Then I came back to another red roof pavilion and go right.

If I had gone right at the pavilion, I would have hiked around a back sports field that then reconnects to the main area of the park. I walk to the Veteran’s Memorial and playground instead.

At the next intersection is a large green frog staring at me.

I make a left to a bridge that crosses a small part of the lake.

In the distance is an open area in the icy lake that the ducks are enjoying splashing around in.

Veteran’s Memorial Garden
Then I make a left after the bridge heading up to the Veteran’s Memorial.

A Tribute Walk leading up to the memorial showcases interpretive panels of wars from the time St. Charles County was organized in 1812 to the present day.

Veterans Memorial Plaza has names of St. Charles County soldiers who died in service to our nation since World War I engraved on stone panels. During summer flowers bloom and the area is green with the garden.

Playground
Next, I go left by a pavilion and restrooms doing a loop around the AstroTurf of the playground.

I come to two tall climbing structures with ropes in the middle.

Then go by an area that would be filled with kids in the summer since it is for water fun. It has jets, sprayers, and a waterfall flowing during the warmer months.
Next, I pass by a merry-go-round, swings, and more climbing structures. (Main Blog Photo)
Fields and Dog Park Area
After doing a circle around the playground I am back by the pavilion. I make a right and cross the park road and now walk through a field with woods on the left.

At the back is the connection to the trail section that I missed. I go left and head down a hill in switchbacks.

A large wire fence encloses a dog park.

Then I come to the entrance sign and pass by a maintenance building before coming back to the picnic pavilion by the lot I parked in.

Final Thoughts
This is a great park to do with kids since it includes a large playground. Also, it has a lot of different sites to see with the Veteran’s Memorial and lakes. Know it can be busy on weekends, especially during the summer with the splash pad.
