Walk through Hemp at the Great Godfrey Maze

The Great Godfrey Maze is usually done with corn, but this year it is filled with hemp, which makes this a whole new adventure.

This is due to soil nutrient deficiency and several years of corn crops that failed.

Hemp thrives on low-nutrient soil and grows tall, thick, and fast. Bonuses are that it is cheaper to grow and does not require chemical treatments.

The maze is located at Robert E Glazebrook Community Park in Godfrey, Il.

This year’s theme is a circus and the aerial view would show an elephant and a lion.

OUR TIME HERE:

The Maze

I took my son and we first explored the seven-acre hemp maze. Circus-themed cardboard cutouts are by the entrance where kids can stick their heads through for funny photos.

The hemp is tall, so it works well as a replacement. I like the yellow flowers that bloom on it.

Bounce Houses

Next, we checked out the bounce houses. This is a large attraction and is made up of different slides, and structures. A long bounce house goes through the middle and allows the kids to do many activities throughout it.

It is $10 per person. You receive a wristband and you can do them all.

You pay for this at the concession stand along with all the other activities.

Jumping Pillow

He enjoyed going up and down on the Jumping Pillow. The cost is $2 per person per jump and all ages can participate.

After that activity, we ran out of time to do others since he spent so much time at the bounce houses and maze.

MAZE OVERVIEW

The Great Godfrey Maze is open on the weekends through October 29th.

On Friday and Saturday nights, the maze will be open after dark. Each visitor must have a flashlight to help navigate the twists and turns of the Great Godfrey Maze. Flashlights will be available at the concession stand for purchase for $3 each.

Robertsville State Park: Lost Hill Trail Hike

Hiking through an upland forest, by an oxbow lake, and being spooked on the trail was part of my time at Robertsville State Park. I hiked the 2.8-mile Lost Hill Trail which has 292 feet of elevation gain on a natural surface that can be rocky at times with some up and down.
